Looking to do a diy surrogator and was wanting any feedback from others who are currently using one or who has experience with one. We are going into this with low expectations and realize repopulation is not likely. We are doing this as a research project. I own land that I have managed the habitat and feel it has what it needs to give it a go, I also have other landowners that will be onboard as well. If I could release birds through out the summer and into early fall and they could make it several months we would take that as a win. Any insight or tips on heat systems and feed will be appreciated, feel that is going to be crucial in the survival during the brooding period. Each batch of birds will be banded so we will be able to study release dates correlated to survival rates. Looking to release birds at the 5-6 week mark initiallyand so as many rounds as weather permits. This will be a trial and error project. Will be happy to share our success and shortcomings.
