Disgraced Pheasant Hunter

After 36 yrs of bird hunting exclusively, I went and got a deer lic. today. The main reason is to take a 13 yr old who I take pheasant hunting every Sat. He decided he wanted to try deer hunting so I agreed. Oh it may be fun, but it sure ain't bird hunting! The dogs are already looking at me with shame.

Wait till you get back home and the dogs have antlers on them!!! Hope you have fun. Nothing like taking a youngster out. Good luck.

SPeaking of deer hunting, is there any public land that wont be trampled through by deer hunters over the next couple of weeks? I am still a bird hunter, that has only hunted public land due to not knowing of any private land. Now that my dog is out for a couple of weeks, I need to hunt some easy stuff since I will be hunting by myself...again due to my friends all being deer hunters.

I doubt it and for safety sake I would be very cautious when hunting public during deer season. Your best bet is to go out on Thurs. the 10th, when 1st seasons over. I usually have good luck on that day.

(Heavy Breathing through helmet) Come over to the dark side Luke. I admire your pluck and fortitude. I was born into a deer hunting family and I could really care less about those critters. I've gotten a couple... but as soon as the sound of the gunshot dies... it's all messy work from there on. If I can't carry it in one hand, I don't shoot it:) Good luck anyway, and I'm proud to hear you're gett'n a young'n into the fraternity. Shoot straight and keep your powder dry.
