Just got back to CO from a l-o-n-g out-of-state trip for the holidays today...Did somebody leave me a rooster or two for Jan??? ;)

I was a real good boy, stickin mighty close to the missus & the fam for the most part...Now I'm dyin to get back on a few more wily ol' roosters with my labrador sidekick, before the season ends here in a few more weeks!...There wasn't a wild rooster within 500 miles of where I was at - but I did manage to get in one GOOD morning duck hunt over the dekes with a couple old friend's and my dog's 1st gen progency/offspring...Also sat a spell on a deerstand & capped a 200+ lb wild hog later the same afternoon! :)

Sure is good to be back HOME in CO! Can't wait to hear some cacklin again...Anybody up for a little gangbangin on some of those late-season, W-I-L-D-L-Y evasive little woolybuggers or perhaps teamworkin together to try & help corall em' in just a wee bit???

hhR, I can tell you that the roosters I saw last week around Holyoke are still out there waitin' for ya. Couldn't hit a thing, although the pup did manage to put up a couple. I'm gonna have another go at it on Weds or Thurs, whenever the weather gets nasty - maybe they'll hold a bit tighter and give me some closer shots...

Well I know that we left you a few from yesterday. Twelve birds wanted for the day, Eleven Egg McMuffins, Ten Cups of Coffee, Nine Hours Driving, Eight Fields a walking, Seven Shots Fired, Six Hunters Hunting 5 Ringnecks a flying, Four Dog's a sniffing, Three Trucks a driving, Two Hurting Feet, and One that got away.

We Left a lot in the field and took Zero Birds yesterday.

Talk with ya soon

"Nice" poetic post 5Gen - had me singin right along! :)

lewis88, Thurs is lookin pretty "sweet" right now if the current long-range weather forecast holds true!

I don't like the sound of the "dead bird" thread/posts though - I sure hope a third sub-zero-w/snow cold blast in a row now doesn't make things a whole lot worse...Sure would like to see a solid load of brood-stock make it thru to nesting season to build on for next year!

Not to worry, mate. Was out today and the bulk of the drifts are gone, there's plenty of cover out there for them to hide in come weds/thurs. Saw a TON of roosters, too - from the truck! Spent all day in what's been pretty good areas this year, dog worked her tail off, all we managed to get up was a single hen. But the roosters were cacklin' and runnin' down every road I drove. I think they'll be fine. Fingers crossed, we'll have a good spring and all those hens will have healthy broods!

Lewis88 - So nice to hear that report! Sounds like there's not gonna be too much snow with this next brutal cold snap + it's gonna warm up fairly soon afterward...I'm with you, hoping for another really good spring & summer to continue building up overall bird numbers following this banner year on the CO pheasant scene...With any luck weather-wise, hopefully next year & beyond will continue the upward trend for a change & be even better! :)

I'll be out there either Thurs or Fri burnin up boot leather behind the dog & hopin for a real up-close observation of the law of gravity - "what goes up, must come down"! :D

It's looking like Weds for me, I'll post a quick report when I get in. Just hoping for enough snow to see some tracks, enough wind for the dog to scent and enough cold to keep 'em hunkered down till I get within range. That's not too much to ask, is it?
