Devils Lake area pheasant hunting

Recently got some private permission in the north Devils Lake area but I have never hunted anywhere near there. I have done some quick looking and seems to be plenty of public in the area as well. Since the private piece is fairly small, if I make a trip I would want to try some other public in the area. Looks like its a wet area so I would guess heavy cattails.
Anyone hunted the area? Any advice? Time of year to go?

I would go mid season and fish and hunt
 
I was up there duck hunting for NR opener this year and the last 2. Before this year I had never seen a pheasant. This year they were about everywhere. My guess would be get them early in the season if you can. Last couple of years, not so much on line no trespass posting. This year most properties in the area were on line posted, so much more of the public was getting hunted.
 
I've been there every summer for the last couple of years fishing. The guides are almost all hunters too, but hunting in the area seems to be more waterfowl focused. Nevertheless, last year we saw quite few on the roadsides in the mornings and it looks like there should be pheasants around.
