Novice question

My Brittany has decided to bring me anything that he thinks i might like.
He loves to hunt has a unquenchable prey drive and we have been working on the retrieve, perhaps to seriously.
I hope his latest trend of bringing stuff ( dead opossum, field mice, large bird-foot, ect) is not a serious issue.
Do i have a problem?
How aggressively should i discourage this?
We go out every day ...twice a day... no wild birds in this area so he is hunting what is available.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

When he brings you something, give him a pat on the head. Nothing to worry about. Are you sure the possum was dead? Mine retrieve three this year. Never seen any blood.

I wouldnt worry about it or make a fuss about it. I would accept the gift and chuck it when he turns his back. :)

Better he is bringing it than wallowing on/in it as mine do.

Mine brings back beer bottles and cans that some mopes throw in the ditch. He then proceeds to chew up the cans.

Came home to this this evening. I had been watching the squirrel playing out in the yard and left ,, minutes later I got the orders that I was needed in the back yard. She saw the whole thing.:D It never ends.

My recommendation is to look at it before you reach for it. You want to be the one grabbing, not the one being grabbed. It is a positive behavior, reward it as such or ignore it when it's not what you want. I'm guessing this pup is young? Usually they will adjust and stop the extra species after they have a firm idea of what you're looking for. If they're bored, they'll resort to what's available just like pointing mice and meadowlarks.
