Danner Instigator Hiking Boot

I'm thinking about getting a pair of Danner Instigator hiking boots to use for early season hunting and running trials. Has anyone tried a pair of these?

I have the Pronghorns and like the comfortable fit. Yes they do leak if you're in real wet conditions but they are comfy. The Instigators are built on the same Terra Force platform. I also like that at 6" they are a little higher than the normal hiking boots. Here's the link to Danner. http://www.danner.com/product/boots/instigator+gtx+full+leather+hiking+boots.do

I was in the market for a pair of boots recently and did try a pair of these on. I ended up going with the Vasque Wasatch GTX instead. I've worn them while hunting in the snow and my feet stayed warm and dry.

I bought these for the same reason and I'm lazy and don't like taking the tall Pronghorns on and off.

I like them and wear them now snow-blowing and nasty weather, but they are not as comfortable as the Pronghorns and have no ankle support to speak of turn my ankles on rough terrain. I love m Pronghorns but the second pair in 4 years are leaking badly again don't know what to do next.

I'm in the same boat, have 4 years of fairly hard use on my Pronghorns, the seams at the toes are pulled out, they're still waterproof though, but I'm due for a new pair before fall. Most comfortable pair of boots I've ever owned, but don't know if I should expect more out of them than I got. I think if they'd reinforce the Pronghorn toe area with some kind of scrape resistant cap they'd have held up alright for me. Decisions decisions.

I also looked at the 453 GTX All Leather boot. What I like about the Instigator is that at 6" it's a little taller than most hiking boots.

Cheesy made a comment about a scuff proof toe on the pronghorns. I think that would be a great idea. Surprised they haven't done that. If I remember correctly, I saw an advertisement this past fall at Scheel's and they had a pronghorn made especially for them that had the scuff proof material on the toe. I might have to check that out.

I emailed Danner last night asking for recommendations on a boot as comfortable as the Pronghorn, while still venting my frustration at their lack of durability in the toe area. Here is a copy and paste of their response. Looks like this summer the new Pronghorns will be out with the added toe-cap

First, I am not sure how much longer your current Pronghorn's will last you, but we are coming out with a new Pronghorn in June/July that will answer some of your problems. It has an added abrasion resistant toe cap.

I have included some current boots that we have that would also be similar to the Pronghorn. Let me know if you have any other questions.
