Cutting down cattails

I was hunting a private spot recently. It's really not that good unless the pond freezes which it hadn't. I was walking the treeline and at an opening I would let the dogs go and sniff the cattail edge. Unbeknownst to me there was a secret trail! Of course I took it, and it followed along for a hundred yards or so until there was another opening in the trees and then it ended there. This land is like the wild west, anyone can get permission. I've never seen a pheasant hunter there, but I know it's popular for ducks. This got me thinking, how would one go about making a path like this? My uncle has a good pheasant slough but it's thick. I can see a path being really useful there. Not enough deer in the area for good deer trails.

Get some certified wetland allowed Round up. Get you an ARGO with sprayer set up or backpack sprayer which is more work but it doesn't take much spray and when the cattails are first emerging spray your trail. Real easy that way.
