Cousin Goes on First Pheasant Hunt

My cousin accompanied my hunting buddy and me on his first pheasant hunt. He grew up in a city and neither parent hunted, but he told me he was interested so I invited him. Maybe he'll get a gun now and join me in the rewarding quest for upland birds. He is 60, but still interested in new things. We had a good hunt in that we hunted different habitats, he saw two good dogs hunting, pointing, and retrieving, both hunters get limits, and then there was the bourbon at the tailgate after the guns were put away for the day. Come to think of it, I had a great time!

Thats Awesome! There are few things in life more enjoyable than introducing someone to hunting for the firse time no matter what their age, especially behind a good pointing dog for the older folks. Great job and get him out again!

Sounds like a perfect day:cheers:

Very cool Sir! Congratulations on getting him out and thanks for introducing someone new to our tradition. Now tell him he owes you another new person for the access you shared w/ him:D Maybe a daughter, son, or grandchild of his that's never been out?

Thanks for sharing the story.

Thanks!

Thanks for the nice comments, friends.

My hunting buddy and I have taken a Jerry Garcia look-a-like out with us several times over the past few years. He had never wanted to carry a gun or shoot anything until he asked this year if we minded if he brought his gun!

His gun?? I was scratching my head because he's pretty much of a hippie but he inherited some sweet guns from his wife's father and he wanted to give it a go.

Last time out he got some great shots off but didn't kill a quail. He said he's all in every time he can make it. :)

You showed him the way of quail and the gun and he saw the light. Well done!
