Cleaned 6 birds from SE SD so far this season (averaging 2 birds per hunt). 3 were first year birds and 3 were second year birds, small sample size, but it kinda confirms a weak hatch.

Niceshot, you are right on sample size. You cannot confirm weakhatch with 6 birds. Wouldn't you say that increase in birds over last year with killer winter confirms good hatch?

We have 2 farms 6 miles apart and shot a ton of mature birds on one and ton of young birds on other. What happened?

Not in the area he hunts. Once again everone seems to forget that a lot of areas in SD had a drop in bird numbers. A few areas carried the state total up.

Niceshot, About a 1/3 of the birds uncle Bruce and I have shot this year are very young birds. So young you have to take a good look to determine they are a rooster. Sometimes I am tempted to let them go so they will have more meat on them later.
