Cold Blast

Been checking the weather throughout the day, both in KS and SD. Looks like the cold just got to KS as some of our northern counties are at 42 (with a "feels like" temp of 32). There are also warnings of power outages due to high winds:confused:

Anyway, its a balmy 73 degrees here right now, but I know it won't last long:thumbsup:

So, who's calling in or taking last minute vacation days due to the cold blast? I can't decide if I want to get out before the weekend crowd makes it or if I should wait for the precipitation forecast to "firm-up" a bit before committing. After not chasing roosters on the opener, I'm ready for some action:cheers:

I hope this cold snap slows the birds down a bit, the quail we did find just felt like running, and scattered to beat the band.

I am getting back out sunday after the success we had opening weekend regardless of ths weather...hopefully the hold tighter than they did on sunday..saturday they held pretty but sunday was day at the raceway for the pheasants

I would be after them now, better to go now and possibly hit it perfect, than to sit at home and guarantee that you won't do any good.

I'm probably sitting out this cold snap. The opener was good, but I'm leaving Monday for a three day business trip, then home Wednesday, then leaving friday for three days in SD. I think I should stay home this weekend.

I took advantage of the last warm day today and golfed at Sand Creek Station in Newton. On the 14th hole I looked up and said to my playing partners, "Hey, you think that might be the front coming in?" 6 seconds later and it was 20 degrees colder and the wind was howling. winter announced itself with a great show today. It's time to hunt.

14 was tough, everything was tough in that wind. Even 18, I flew the green by 15yds.

I do like that course. Very nice well thought out golf development from what I see.

I'm not so good at golf or I'd join the conversation:D

SO, who's going out bird hunting this weekend? Will I have the entire state to myself?

Which day will be best in your mind? Saturday the snow is supposed to start, but it doesn't look like there will be much on the ground for Sunday. I thought about taking a day off before the w/e and going, but I wanted some precip on the ground for the dogs. That said, the birds should be sittin' tight tomorrow morning!

Anyway, bird #'s and the forecast will not be considered when picking an area to hunt this w/e...I'll be following the weather:thumbsup:

Kb the wife and i will be out sunday for her first ever wild pheasant hunt. They will be holding very tight this weekend. Now i have to decide if i want to make the 3 hour each way trip on sunday to a place that i know that holds many many many birds or just drive north towards the nebraska border and stay in north east kansas..best of luck to you

If you make the 3hr trek and don't mind me joining you, I wouldn't mind hunting there Sunday. I'm hunting wherever the snow flies Saturday, then I'm free to travel wherever on Sunday and where you'd go is actually closer to home anyway...let me know!

I will absolutely let you know kb. It would be an honor and privilege to hunt with you. If i don't make the track i will definitely pm you with where i was gonna go so that you and the boys can get into them.

I have to do that four letter word Satuday - work! Sunday I am going to mess around with the dogs here at the house a little and maybe watch some football.

Would love to be duck hunting on Saturday though.

cold snap more like freeze snap KB. it was -16 in casper this am.:eek:LOl glade i am in arizona right now.:D

kinda cold

when pastor john and me hit the field yesterday morning we had a slight breeze and it was 6 below, while I wear shooting glasses, several birds got away cause my eyes were so watery I could hardly see, so didn't shoot, over all however we did well and his now 2 year old mutt, gsp, made seveal points and a couple of retrieves
