CO Opener Plans and Feedback

The opener is pretty crazy. You do get your fair share of (how do I put it nicely) idiots that day. You can expect a truck in just about all of the really good WIA fields. There will be plenty of spots that open up and fields available. Just don't get too discouraged. The birds do fly back in them. I have been in fields with three of us and we had a group of about 8-9 walk through on top of us. So now I try to go with larger groups on opening day since they won't walk on top of you when they are outnumbered. But this year it looks like only four of us are going now. I see that you are in Longmont. I am not far from you. My good friend/hunting buddy lives in Longmont. Maybe you will see us up there. I will be in a white Suburban with my two dogs. PM me for details on where abouts we will be if you want to get in a field with us.

For the most part it is still really fun if you can get past all that. It defintely gets better after opening day. Also once the cold weather sets in the fair weather guys are gone. That is when i like it the most :D.

I am in Lafayette and wouldn't mind teaming up this weekend if anyone wants to.

I have a 1 year old pointer though so don't expect him to be "seasoned" :)

It is hard to pass up opening day. It is nice to get the dogs on some uneducated birds that will hold for a point and not run to the other side of the field. It can be pretty crazy though. Always alot of people hitting the better fields. Give it a couple of weekends and the fair weather hunters will be gone, than the guys that really like to chase the wily rooster will be all that is left.:)

Heading to Nebraska in the morning then coming to colorado for opener on quail and pheasant. The chickens have been thick this year in colorado, so keep your eyes peeled out east and you could have a mixed bag...

We found a room in Julesburg and plan on setting that as our base camp this weekend. If anyone else is in that area PM me and we can catch up!

Good luck to all, shoot straight, and find an abundance of birds!

Are you staying at the Platte Valley Inn? Just curious since we stayed there two years ago on the opener.
