Cinder block dog houses

My old dog dens are about to rot away and instead of replacing them for 250 each or more I am considering building 3 dog houses out of cinderblocks and 1.59 each. All I am building is something big enough for the dogs to get into and turn around to make a bed. I have a removeable roof idea but am still coming up short on something for a floor that is removeable for cleaning.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Are they going to be permanent or movable? The reason I ask is that I have seen this done before but they were permanent.

I'm thinking permanent. But I suppose I could just stack them and not use mortar. Never thought about that.

The ones I seen were set up like what talking about being permanent.they had a slant to the concrete they sat on and had about 1/4 inch holes where the blocks met the slab at the low end so water could get out.And they had the removable roof like your taling about and used a garden hose to wash it out.He boght the large bed pillows that they make for dogs and added stuffing to them plus a little flap on the door.He had one he done with a short tunnel on it plus the flap and they worked just fine like this.

Just a word of caution: if you stack them, then stack them even up and then get 4" landscaping timbers cut down and placed through the blocks. This will keep them from caving in from the sides. I have also seen silicone used instead of mortar for a block dog house. Either way, you need structure or bracing. A 60# restless GSP can topple a structure like that if you don't.

Had a buddy in Colorado that went to the dump, found a large chest type freezer. Took hardware and all out. Flipped it over, put two high dollar dog doors in the ends and bingo, a pretty darn nice insulated dog house for two.
