Chicks already?

This past weekend,some friends and I were dog training at my designated dog training field.Before we start working our dogs on planted birds we let the dogs stretch there leg's.About 60 yards out my dog locked up.There are alot of wild birds in the area and I figured it was a hen.As i walked in 6 young pheasants flushed.They were about the size of chukar.I don't remember seeing chicks this big this early in the season.Has anyone else been seeing chicks?
 
This is in east central livingston county.This past Sunday on my way to go dog train,saw a hen with 6 very young chicks along a filterstrip.
