Cawker City area

I'm curious how the Cawker City area is looking this year for pheasants and quail. Might be making a January trip out there. Anyone had any luck hunting this area this season? Thanks.
 
Went there for the opener as I have for the last 10 years camping on one of the designated areas in the WMA. I always enjoy it regardless of how well I do, just getting out and watching the dogs work as well as having made a few friends over the years. I like being able to walk out of my camper and just start hunting. Kind-of has become a tradition. This year from what I saw I would say the area was about average if not a little down from some other years, however I saw ALOT more hunters all around the area than I have ever seen in the past. I watched group after group go through the same areas time and again. Had to have a good dog to find them though or they would let you just walk on by within a foot. I imagine now that any remaining birds will be pretty wild but I would not let it stop me from trying. Also I don't know what the pressure has been like up to this point. Good luck anyway.
 
me and a couple buddys usually hunt some private land up there, usually fair pretty well. havnt been up there this year yet, but we will be heading there soon hopefully. farmer said he would guess numbers are about avg. from the last few years in his area
