I am building my first Johnny house. Typical 5x5, 8 ft high with recall pen.
I know most have a door at the top to let birds fly out. What if I wanted to catch them so I could plant them or put in a launcher. How should I catch them.
I have a similar Johny House & never just let them fly out the top door. I have a smaller door on top that swings open in the normal fashion & usually I just reach in and grab them off the top ledge or use a small butterfly net that I bought on Amazon. Occasionally I grab them out the larger back door used for cleaning and feeding. Once in a while you may get an escapee but they come back later.
Usually the inner tube gasket door system can let you reach a hand in and gently capture them. Then release and call them back. Sooner than you think the birds are better trained than the dog. I thought this might be a column of what happens where you call back wild quail! It will happen too.
