Anybody hunted pheasants in or near Britton in the last couple years? I see it is loaded with public land and it's close proximity would make a perfect long weekend trip. I'm afraid rooms will be booked for opener in some spots if I keep waiting for the road side counts to come out.

did that trip about 3 times back about 4-7 years ago...wanted to hunt nd as well...traveled about 70 miles in a few directions from britton...nd #'s started to fall a few years ago, but still had some success with pheasants and sharpies...on the sd side we did ok around britton and the surrounding areas, but did much better going an hour south or west...great ducks on the nd side as well...a bit more wooded and a bit more wet around britton than I prefer, but fairly close to my home and and all around versatile hunting base.

BB has it right. Nice area & great people but the habitat loss has been big and the numbers have been falling.

I have lost more good WIA spots in that area over the last four years than I care to count. SD GF&P has done a decent job replacing the acreage but the new WIA's are not as good quality as the old parcels and the few really good spots left get figured out and hit hard.

I'll stop in the area for a day or two this year because the memories are strong but I don't hunt the whole week there anymore.

Reason I was thinking of that area is I started a new job and time may be an issue. (Still haven't asked) My brother-in-law insisted on Mobridge. Guess where out motel is booked? Fingers crossed on the days off or it will be a long drive for a days hunt.

I've hunted all over the Chamberlain and Aberdeen area. To crowded for me, especially on opening weekend. Mobridge had good roadside counts last year. More then double Aberdeen. Besides they fleece you for motels and such. I also love it along the Missouri river. We shot 64 birds in Hoven last year which isn't really that far from the Selby Mobridge area. I don't know we'll give it a shot.
