Ok so a lady we know found a pup and after a month of posting "found" ads on craigslist and facebook forums with no owners coming forward to claim him,she wants to find him a home.Since I never got the oppotunity to hunt upland game in the south I have never had a bird dog,and want to give him a shot. This puppy listens very well, and he is energetic.I think he has potential. But who knows. The thing is I am not sure what breed he is.Its not going to change my mind on him but I was hoping for some help ID'ing his breed from Guys who have seen a ton of pointers in their lives....I think he is English Pointer x GSP..Because he has a block head like an EP,but color like a GSP..THANKS!

definatel looks like a shorthair cross with a english pointer the ears give off the english pointer and the ticking gives you the shorthair aspect of the mix goodluck with him treat him right and he will be your pal for as long as he lives

How large of a dog is he? From the photo you posted he could look like a Braque du Bourdonnais. The Bourbonnais are smaller than the normal Pointer or GSP. they are 20-22" and 40-55 lbs. Here's a Bourbonnais breeders web site you can see they look a lot like the dog you are interested it.

He is about 25# right now and is 4 months old according to the vet..I assume the vet checked him for a chip etc, because the lady that found him is well known foster parent for lost/abandoned animals. She has went through all her normal methods to find his owners. She has reunited several lost dogs before.i really doubt he is a rare dog.He was wormy when she found him.You just wouldn't think if he was that unique anyone would let him get that bad off or drop him off in the isolated area he was found. My kids and I are gettin attached to him now so someone would have to show me pics of him as a puppy and have a real good excuse for why he was where she found him, plus reimburse the lady for shots etc which is what I will offer her as well. Thanks for all the help!Im goin to put a pic of him when he was 3 months old.he was probably 18# then.

With all this said..does he look "birdy"?

I took him out on a walk last night and I found out he can hunt..he located and pointed a skunk and a frog, and was tracking deer..He is very inquisitive if everything. He is still a pup so im not too discouraged that he is tracking down everyhing he smells.I'm happy he has hunters instinct now I guess it's up to me to get him to target the correct species lol.I showed him a few pheasant feathers and he went crazy.he was trying to get them from me.I hid them and he found them.He would keep going back to every spot I planted them..even when they were gone..he knew he had smelled them there before and kept checking to find them..I didn't do that for too long..I am thinking it may be best to give him limited exposure with high reward on real birds.idk..I've never trained a bird dog before so I'm winging it..pun intended lol
