Braque du Bourbanois

Does anyone own or have you hunted with a Brque du Bourbonnais?
I am very interested in this breed.

Tell me what you can if you are familiar with this breed.

I looked at the Braque du Bourbonnais pointers a few years ago but ended up with another Brittany. From what I saw and found of this breed I was very impressed. There is a local guy that has one. I did hunt with him one afternnon a couple years ago but it was during a heavy snow fall and difficult to see much less judge the dog. He got his dog from Elk Run Kennels in Idaho. http://www.elkrunkennels.com/Welcome.htm Lonn Kuck is the breeder and I have visited with him a few times. He has some very nice dogs and could tell you a lot about the breed. I'm sure Shari Stueck with Rufnit Kennels in Lincoln, NE would also be an excellent source. http://www.rufnitkennels.com/

I think they would make someone a very nice gun dog. Good luck and let us know if you get one. By the way, where are you located?

I'm located in Central Nebraska.
I have traded e-mails with Lonn Kuck and am currently on his lisrt for a pup.
I was just interested in seeing what others thoght of the BdB breed.
I have always owned labs, but I am ready to try a pointing breed.

Since you are in Nebraska is there any reason you haven't considered Rufnit Kennels? Just curious.

Once you go with a pointing breed you will never go back to a flusher. Especially if all you hunt is upland birds. I had Labs and Springers for over 20 years before I got a Brittany about 15 years ago. While I loved the Labs and Springers I couldn't go back to a flusher.

Good luck with the pup. Be sure to post some pics when you get it.

I have not ruled Rufnit Kennels out.

But.... After researching the BdB breeders... all of the other breeders have Elk Run Kennel lines in their breeding program.
And Elk Run kennels has many dogs with NAVHDA titles, I'm not huge on titles, but may as well own the best.

I think you are totally correct in going with Lonn Kuck at Elk Run Kennels. I"m really anxious to see how your pup turns out since it's a breed I so strongly considered.

I've got my fingers crossed.
The mating has not even taken place yet. (she has yet to come into heat)
And I believe I am down the list a ways.
Also, I am only interested in a female.
Hopefully, it all works out.

When I purchased my currently lab. The breeder had a great looking set of GSP pups. I was amazed at how they would point a wing on a string at 6 weeks old. I then decided that my next dog would be a GSP. My main concern was that some of the GSP's I had hunted with were pretty high strung... and ranged out way farther than I liked. It was on this site that I discovered BdB's... and researched them quite extensively. Sounded like a great breed... good disposition, family dog and great hunting ability.
