Boat tax

I would encourage Kansas sportsmen to vote yes on the proposition to reclassify the way watercraft are taxed. The state currently hoses me every year because I am honest and register my boat in Kansas. The "luxury" tax on my fishing boat is twice as high as the taxes on my truck.

Thanks for your consideration, and I hope this was not too political for this forum. I'm sure the other fishermen on the Kansas forum would also thank you.

My guess is you are Hosed :)

I voted yes to it. The taxes in this state are outrageous on boats!

Back in the day when I tournament fished alot I kept my boat in the winters in MO. Just so happened that I fished there in the fall and some of the winter. So, come Jan 1 my boat was never in KS.

I also voted yes. I am not a boat owner, but I do understand that many register their boats out of state due to the higher taxes in KS. It should actually increase revenue for the state if Kansans actually start registering their boats in KS again due to the decrease in taxes.

When I last checked, it was passing by a narrow margin.

I certainly hope it passes. I have owned my fishing boat for five years, and paid an average of $600 per year in property taxes on it. That's $3000!

The really insulting thing is that the money does not benefit fish & game in any way. For $3000, I should have my own private boat ramp at the lake of my choice!

What am I doing wrong (or right?) I pay 33 bucks for a 3 year boat registration and that is it......

My old, beater boat is depreciated out to the point that I don't get charged property taxes on it. Our newer boat gets heavily taxed. Your county should send you a list, annually, of the valuation of your toys. Maybe your boat isn't on the list yet, or maybe it is old like my old boat.
