Birds! Birds! Birds!

Had to make a trip from Sioux Falls to Valentine NE to pick up my Shorthair who has been at hunting school at a lodge in SW Nebraska at Prairie Sands Hunting. Took I-90 to Presho, and headed south to catch 44/18 west towards Mission. Between I-90 and 44, I saw literally hundreds of birds in the ditches and edges of the fields loafing and feeding. Also saw some grouse.

Needless to say, it was very encouraging. No only because of the amount of birds seen, but the amount of dugouts and ponds/wetlands FULL of water and the dark, moist looking topsoil in the fields.

Hopefully Mother Nature and El Nino hook up this year and bless these drought-ridden areas with ample amounts of water AFTER the nesting season is complete!!!

P4E, the conditions are such as I have not yet seen since arriving in South Dakota (Spring of 2000). Beginning in 2001 things pretty much dried up. Now ALL the low spots are filled. Looking at the weather history there are still some pockets of drier areas like Highmore.

Anybody else have reports from their respective hunting haunts?
