Bird numbers Winter kill

Fairly new to Minnesota. I was out Turkey hunting last week North of Cambridge. Bird numbers do not seem to be affected in this area from the weather. Lots of Roosters crowing in the morning. It looks like the birds came through the winter in good shape. What is everyone else seeing ?

Thanks
Tom

I've seen plenty of birds in S central MN I don't think the winter was as bad as everyone thinks, we just need a decent nesting season for another good fall.

Winter really did not get started until around January 25th. Then it ran bad for about 5 - 6 weeks, plus a few spring storms. The birds were probably still pretty healthy with plenty of reserves at the end of January.

I think it becomes much worse when a hard winter starts in November or even early December and then rolls through February. The birds essentially wither away ...

Need a nice June and July, albeit a plethora of late hatches have been the norm the past few years. Pheasant hens are pretty obsessive in nesting ...
