Bird Death from Cold

A fellow Kansas hunter told me that once during very cold weather like we are having now he saw a flushed hen die or lose consciousness in midair. Anyone ever observed or heard of this?

no, i would wager the hen had a non weather aliment of some kind prior to the flush.

Seen them hit power lines a few times. Kills them stone dead. But never mid-air freezing or coronaries.

I watched one flush and fly into the side of our barn and die. I've seen birds that we all thought for sure we had missed clean fly off then crumple. But simply just die from cold mid-air? Perhaps it was a heart attack from being scared.
