Bilby Ranch

Hello fellow missourians,
Headed up to bilby tomorrow am if anyone would like to join. How are the birds to anyone who has been there lately. I'm sure the weather has screwed stuff up the last couple of weeks but sunday is coming fast so I'm giving it a shot anyway.

Welcome to the forum. Can't go, but you might do well. That area gets hit hard, but birds recolonize the area as pressure wains and the season wears on. hunt spots that seem out of the way, others might not have thought worth the walk. Report back. Now that you found us, stay involved.

had a nice little 2 hr hunt this morning. Dog got two nice hen points. Hunted well but she still hasnt quite figured out the running roosters yet. Not a bad way to finish of the 11-12 hunting season. Keeping fingers crossed for both MO and KS to have great nesting years so next year we can get those roosters pinned.

Bilby always looks like it is managed pretty well for phez. I used to go to Happy Holler CA (another "Quail Emphasis" area) and don't remember actually pointing a bird there. I wish MDC would look at SD's model and put more of an emphasis on upland hunting, besides putting labels on CA's that don't hold any more birds than any of the others. We lose a lot of money from out of state, and in state for that matter, hunters that drive directly through our state to get to kansas or SD. Hey but we have elk now.....

All I found today at seat dog pointed a hen no quail. So much for another emphasis area

10 years ago Seat had a lot of quail. That was before the "emphasis", seems like in that area the MDC more interested in prairie chickens. At one time they had half the area off limits due to a chicken research project.
