Bathing Golden Retriever?

Hello,

I hunt a golden retriever with me at school and get out almost everyday for a little while. Most of the time, she is very muddy from the marshes and everything that she needs a bath when we are finished. I have heard that it isn't great for the dogs to bathe them that frequently, apparently it messes with the oil or something in their coats? What does everyone else here do? I don't really see a way around almost daily bathing!

Thanks!

I'm on my 5th Golden and seldom bathed them...usually a wipe-down with a large wet rag. In the summer they usually got the hose-off treatment in the back yard.

Have been tempted to take my current dog to Petco for their bath facility but so far, no go.

When my dogs are shot from hard days of hunting, I take them to a pet wash at the local car wash that uses a gentle shampoo, then put some olive oil on a rag and wipe them down a bit. Then I brush them with that $50 brush, the name of which I can't think of. This get the olive oil to the skin and seems to work good. I wouldn't think of making them sleep in the kennel after they give so much of themselves in the field, it's straight to their couch for R&R.

I either train or hunt 3-5 days a week, I gave all three a bath this spring! Or was that 2015? Honestly my labs are house dogs and I only bathe them if they get funky. I will swim them in clear water if they are really muddy, and then towel them off with a chamois

Being our Goldens are part of our family and house dogs as well as hunters, I always bathed them about every two or three weeks or at least take them for a swim in clear creek water. I do think every day would not be good for them. Ask your Vet what shampoo they recommend. A good dog shampoo will cleans them and also have a good coat and skin conditioner.
