Ban tailed pigeons

My brother and I were fishing at New Melones resivoir last weekend and witnessed a wintering flock of what must have been 500 or 600 ban tails in a nice stand of oaks just off the shore in Mormon cove. Have you guys ever seen a flock like this? Where are they all during season? I probably only saw about 10 or so during season this year and never had an in range shot.

QH, Ive watched about 80 or so fly away when hiking up in the hills, cool looking birds, would like to take one but season is soooo short.
