Backup guns

I keep a stoeger M3020 the cheap all black one behind the seat of my truck. It always goes bang and is light to carry. Just in case someone I'm hunting with needs it or I feel like I need more than two shots. Crazy story last year we stayed at hotel and drove over an hour to hunt and my friend realized he left his O/U in the hotel we checked out of. We called them and they had gun. Went back after the hunt and picked it up. Honest people do still exist and it was nice to have the spare gun.

My primary is my 12 ga O/U Browning Cynergy CX Composite. My backup is my 12 ga semi-automatic Browning Gold Hunter. It is my duck gun, so I know it and what/how it shoots very well.....probably better than my O/U!
The backup always stays in the truck. The only way to know it is there and where is to break into the truck and search....which is always locked.
Not sure how much smash and grab is going on in the sticks, but I suppose there is always a chance. But probably a lesser chance than at the lodging.
Criminals are "persons" of opportunity and convenience.....the harder they have to work to steal, the more likely they are to move on to a easier target.

Always have a backup, except for last year and I learned my lesson. Last year, I was packing and decided I didn’t need anything other than my Beretta Silver Pigeon 20 ga. So that’s all I took. I mean, its a Beretta, what could go wrong? On day 3 of the hunt during the first walk, the safety locked up. I couldn’t get it off fire at first. Then I got it on safe and couldn’t get it back on fire. I made the first 3 walks that day and just tried to get my gun to work. I finally got it to work but it was sticky. By the last walk, it was working fine again. Not sure what the issue was. I haven’t shot it since. I probably need to take it apart and make sure nothing is actually broken.

This year it was my Marlin Model 90 doing backup for my A5 Sweet Sixteen. Decided to shoot the Marlin and ended up shooting it better than the A5 so the A5 became the backup for the last two days.

I always bring at least 2 guns with me, even on day trips but when I head out of state I bring 3 with. I usually always bring my A400 20ga and then usually one or both of my A400 28ga's.

What's everyone take out of state for a backup? In the past I've taken one of my o/u's but I get more and more uncomfortable leaving it in the truck or motel room. I'm considering buying something like a reasonably priced 12-gauge pump. Something I wouldn't cry about losing, but also wouldn't mind carrying.
You dont own 3 of the same guns ;)
