Astro replacement strap

I finally swapped out the horribly frayed original strap on my Astro DC30 for a DayGlo model. I should've done it a couple years ago when I first found out they were available, as I went through all kinds of aggravation with that woven piece of crap. I tried singeing it, gluing it, duct-taping it, etc., but nothing worked. Getting the Astro on and off of a dog is a whole new ballgame now!

If there's still anyone out there who hasn't made the transition, but plans to, I'd highly recommend using the video below as your primary guide. It was about a million times more helpful than the written instructions that came with the DayGlo.

I did that a couple years ago.
Not only does the nylon collar get frayed, but it doesn't smell so good either ;)

Oh, yeah! Toward the end, if it got even a little wet and I put it back in the box without letting it completely dry, it smelled like a sewer the next time I opened the box. Of course, if I did let it dry, it became as stiff as a 2-by-4.

As a fellow setter guy, you should be able to appreciate this, and it's absolutely true: After combing out the dog one time a couple of weeks ago, I actually had to take the big comb to the frayed end of the Astro strap. And the burrs on the strap were a lot more stubborn than the ones on the dog.

:D Been there done that!
The final straw was when I started bleeding trying to pull a cockle burr off the collar.
