areas in NW kansas

I have decided to hunt Kansas this year and was wondering if anyone has hunted between Goodland and Atwood or a little south of there. I now a guy who hunted Scott City and did well until he got rained out on Sunday of the opener. Don't want to know exactly where you hunted just how the areas are plus how far East do you have to go to get into quail, I seen a few guys got into them around Russell and I know they have some on Ft. Riley, I am retired military and received a call from an old Army friend who use to be stationed there, thanks

no replys yet, I wonder if no one hunts that area if so that may be telling me something.
Hope those who hunt this coming week end does well and everyone is safe.
Best regards

We drove through there on the way to Wakeeney today. Looked like there weren't as many crop fields in that area, also not as many WIMA fields. Our three hours didn't produce any birds either.

Hubster,
Thanks for that info, I may have to look a little further East I guess. I was hoping the area would have some birds as it is not to far a drive from Colorado Springs and I could make the trip a few times during the season.

I spent many years hunting on Ft. Riley, and got into a lot of quail about 2 years ago, then we have a really bad ice storm. But I heard the birds are better this year. The best luck I had was by Break Neck Lake on the South West side of post. Good Luck to you.

I guess I will start my hunt by going on Highway 70 east to highway 24 and proceed to hill city, I saw on their web site for the city that you can stay at the fairgrounds for $10. a night, yeh I am cheap :), hunt around the area on walk ins around feed if possible than travel East on 24 to Osborn than go south to the area around Russell. That way I might get into some pheasants as well as quail. I guess I will take my camper shell off of the Ford and put the overhead camper on. That way I have a place to sllep, eat and if necessary get out of the weather.
Does anyone know if the corn is being harvested as I think the weather has been pretty nice so i would think it should be coming out.
If you are in the area and see a blue ford pickup truck with a home made dog trailer buried to its axles please honk as you go bye so I know you saw me and I know help is on its way, hopefully.

We're heading out on 36 after T-day. Not as many WIHA's as other places so we hit a few of those & then we have a bit of private we hit. Don't see much quail in that area. Last year we saw a couple of covey's but I don't think quail had opened yet.
Compared to a usual CO season I'd say there are a lot more birds in that area. But I would say this year CO could be just as good w/ actually more walkins compared to Rawlins county KS.
Good luck & let us know if you find some quail I'll do the same.

A little corn has been harvested. The focus now is on cutting the milo, then corn for farmers with both.
