Anyone going out for the opener?

I plan on taking my WPG out for a walk at one of the Northern Grasslands WMA's.
I guess we'll see how it goes.

Yep....Limits at Yolo on opener. Lots of wild pheasants but looks like fewer than the record-setting year last season. Word is out, however,.... tons and tons of pheasant hunters showing up, which goes to show that wild pheasants are still a draw where they exist in decent numbers. Headed over to Sac NWR for pheasant Monday (aka Bloody Monday as it was called back in the day) -- and more wild pheasants were had. Season is off to a great start and it's nice to have so many options for wild pheasants these days. Definitely not easy or leisurely hunting, however. Got to put in some miles.

Went to China Island. Getting worse every year. After the refuge last flooded three years ago during winter pheasant numbers have gone down. When I returned to the check station around noon, only one pheasant was taken.

When I checked in for Pheasant Monday at Sac NWR and asked how they did over opening weekend, the staff said it was the first wild pheasant opener they could ever remember where 0 pheasants were bagged.

Sounds bad. I live ten minutes from China Island and it is convenient to go there but there is no point. I am going to head over to Los Banos/Salt Slough area next week
