Anyone giving it another go this weekend?

I have to put in a day of hard labor on Saturday, but might sneak out on Sunday morning ... time off for good behavior. ;)

Heading to Montana next weekend.

I got out to Yuma County yesterday, hunting walk ins. I hit four different spots and managed to bag just one rooster, the only one I saw. The dog bumped a hen in that same field, and saw one other hen running through a sparse grass field as I was driving around. Saw no other birds driving around and only a few other hunters. That's about the same production as I got last year in one day of hunting, not much to write home about.

Heading to KS on Thursday....will be out there for 3 full days of hunting, can't wait. My local guys tell me it is better than last year, still not like it used to be....but hey, better than being at work:thumbsup:

My wife and I went out Sat and the dog jumped 5 hens and we saw 1 other jump on the other side of a tree row. No roosters. On Sunday the wind drove us home after a morning hunt that we didn't see any birds but jumped a bunny and a huge jack rabbit. The two year old lab is turning out to be a good pheasant dog although sometimes he gets to far out. We'll be working on that this season. Bob

We went out on Sunday and witnessed the great tumbleweed migration! We hit ~5 fields in and around Yuma. Basically nothing but jackrabbits and tumbleweed. By 3 o'clock we were looking for another field, and I told my buddy "You have probably never heard me say this before, but I could call it a day right now". He convinced me to stick it out till sunset ... should have called it a day at 3:00.

It was fun, but would have been more fun with birds ...

Did manage to see one rooster standing in winter wheat as we were driving to a different area. That was the only excitement of the day. I could have been hallucinating.

Spoke to some locals in Wray - they all said that it was still dry through the spring.

Getting excited about heading to Montana at the end of the week.

Yes, you were hallucinating. Check out the "Bittersweet "last" and a fantastic first" post.
Old tomt put up 28-29 rosters while you were wondering around seeing things.
