Anybody getting out this weekend?

I've got stuff to do around the house on Saturday, but I'm going to play hooky from church on Sunday and get out to Little Dry Creek at about 11 o'clock. It's supposed to be a fairly sunny day, so a lot of the duck guys will likely pull out early and the sweat line should be short (if there is one at all).

There were a few birds out there two weekends ago, and all this rain we've had should do nothing but help the hunting conditions. I'd put my chances at getting one decent shot at 50/50, anyway.

Anybody else got anything on the agenda?

I'll probably stick close to home and head west to Los Banos to hunt one of the refuges in the north grasslands. Last weekend we put up 10 or so birds and bagged two at Los Banks Wa but I think I'll try Salt Slough or China Islands this weekend.

And I made plans to play hooky from work tomorrow and go out to Mendota NWR. Never hunted pheasants there before so it should be interesting.

Good luck with that.

Wednesday hunts are pretty much a thing of the past for me until my daughter's in school 2 years from now. I miss them greatly.

Thanks. It's going to be me, my dad, a buddy from work and his dad. Usually my Wednesday hunts are solo so this will be a little different for me. There will be 2 springers and 2 black labs out so we will be able to cover some ground. Ill post a report on how it goes.

ditchparrot i noticed your post says your from paradise do you shoot at the paradise gun club?

No, but I'm thinking of joining in the spring. For some reason I was under the impression that everybody there was into rifles or handguns and that the trap range saw very little action, but I was at the golf course just below there on a recent Tuesday and there was a full squad shooting trap, with other people gathered around.

The clay shooting I do nowadays is usually out at Clear Creek in Corning. I've maybe shot 10 rounds of trap, max, this year.

I used to be a member of the club in Oroville, which also had skeet and 5-stand, but that closed about 3 years ago when the owner of the property decided that years and years of lead needed to be cleaned up.

One drawback to the Paradise club is there's a $100 initiation fee, but that's not bad considering that it's only a 10-minute drive from my house. I'd save that in gas pretty quickly.

Well we got 1 bird in Mendota. The labs had never hunted pheasants before and were not in "upland shape" so they were pretty much toast after the first field. It started to sprinkle about 11 and everyone (besides me) were ready to call it a day. Oh well, Mendota is nice and has a lot of good upland cover, I will definitely be back to chase those birds without the baggage of fair weather hunters.
