Another Hunt with a UPH Member

Over the years I have had the pleasure of hunting with numerous members on this site. The past two days I was able to hunt with Miforester (Tom) and his son. Forgot to get a pic. :( We hunted hard both days but didn't find many birds. We hunted are area from Redfield to Faulkton to Aberdeen. Two days, three guys and only 4 birds. Now we did miss a few and lost one but the birds were few and far between. We hunted all public land (WPA's, GPA's, WIA's and CREP). I have not hunted that area for several years since moving from Aberdeen 8 years ago but I was extremely disappointed in the WPA's. Nearly every WPA had been cut and only had ankle high grass. We went to several of my old favorite stops and found no cover. I'm assuming the Fed's mowed them early in the spring and with the dry conditions in that area the grass just never came back as was expected. Even though the hunting wasn't that great we had a good time and it was fun to finally hunt with Tom. Something we have been trying to do for the past 2-3 years.

Hi George,

After reading your message, I couldn't help recall our hunting together several years ago in the same area. I was based in Faulkton and we met a fellow from Iowa (Chris) and hit public land similar to the ones you mentioned. However, I recall we had fair hunting - not limits, but steady shooting. Sounds like you were not so fortunate...

Long time no talk Zeb. We need to get back out again. Miss the yearly meet up.

You are correct. But it won't be this season. Heading out today for my last hunt of the season. After Christmas dinner we are heading south to Arizona for the winter. Remember to PM me next year when you are going to be in the area.
