Alternatives to CREP

I belong to a club that bought some additional farmland a few years ago. They have been renting it out to a farmer for soy and corn since then. This year will be the last year the club is going to rent it out. They would like to do something with the land and enrolling in CREP was an option they looked at (the club does have some land in CREP now). But they have been told that there is no CREP acreage available so that isn't an option. CRP has been talked about but I was wondering if there are any other options for the land. Anybody have any ideas or experience with somthing like this? The club would like to do something that would help the local wildlife but also help bring in a little money off the land.

Brian,

There are other programs, but I think your best bet is to ask an expert like our Pheasant Forever Biologist, Mr. Shon Robbins. I heard him discussing a similar situation the last time I saw him. Also Mr. Lynn Appleman is up to date on all the Pa. programs!

Thanks FLDBRED. I just emailed Shon and contacted Lynn. I'll have to wait and see how things go. And programs could change a year from now when the farmer is no longer renting the land.
