AKC Labs SILVER puppies

How can these pups be fully registered, when the AKC does not recognize silver as a coat color? As far as I know the only colors that are acceptable are yellow, black and chocolate. If you could please explain this to me I would appreciate it. Thanks

Registration of Silver Labs

Yes, that is exactly correct, Thank You. They are registered with AKC as Chocolate Labrador Retrievers. Silver and charcoal are colors produced by some chocolate labs. Thank you for the question !

I am not here to look down upon what you are doing in any way, shape or form as I am just a guy with a dog and a gun. However, upon reading some of the message boards, I think a lot of breeders would look down upon breeding for a specific color that is not recognized by the AKC. I personally dont have a problem with what you are doing but dont know that I would, have you had problems with other breeders or people about your way of breeding? Do the dam and sires that you have hunt? Thanks

Silver labs make great hunting companions.

Thanks for the questions and for your honesty. You are right everyone likes different things. As far as hunting the color makes no difference. They are labs, they love water and they love to hunt just like labs do.
We happen to like the silver color just like some people like red fox, some like cream some like tan point and some like black, yellow or chocolate. There are many variations in colors in a lot of different breeds from pointers to poodles. There would be no way for AKC to register every specific color in the dog rainbow. We do not think of ourselves as breeding for a specific color, we have a litter a year from our family pets. Some may not agree with this and that is their right to an opinion. God Bless the USA where we all can have the right to different opinions.
