I need advice about Remington Semi Automatic shot guns. Can someone tell me if they prefer one over the other re: 1187 or 1100 Sporting? do they have different features? any info helpful, thanks, Daniel

Have you considered the Remington versa max? If you set on a Remington semi auto I would consider one of those as well. This year they came out with a cheaper one but the action and gas ports are the same only difference is this stock does not have an adjustable comb I believe.

You mention the 1100 Sporting...are you going to hunt with the gun or do clays games? You can use the 1100 Sporting for hunting but it's designed for shooting sporting clays. The 11-87 is a good gun, although you will see Remington bashes beat it to death with their negative comments. I had a 1100 for years and it gave me no problems whatsoever.

I am looking at purchasing a Versamax myself; I think it is an ingeniously simple design and it doesn't look as European as some of the Benellis do. I just like American-styled guns and Remington usually fits the bill. But, you have to go with what fits you and if a Browning or Benelli or Beretta fits you better then you should go with that. They're all good guns or they wouldn't survive "the market" as long as they have.

remmington

get a real gun like a side by side, quite goofing around. depending what kinda hunting you make sure the chamber length will fit your needs like maybe something between 2 3/4 and 3 1/2 for example

cheers

I bought one of the first 1187 when they came out. It was a great gun. But I did have to keep it very clean or I'd have a shell fail to eject, especially in very cold weather. I really liked the gun but it was heavy. They later came out with the light contour barrels that help eliminate a little weight. You really have to go with what feels best to you when you shoulder it and/or shoot it. There are a lot of very good autos on the market right now from Benelli, Browning, Beretta and Winchester.

I second the Versa Max, Dicks Sporting goods had it for 999, camo and 3 1/2

The early Remingtons were great guns. The 870 and 1100 were excellent value but I have owned newer 870's an 11-87 and right now have to return a brand new 7600 because the barrel actually flops around due to poor QC. I will likely never buy another "new" Remington product. An 1100 would definitely be on my buy list though.
