A fun afternoon with the boys

Decided that the youngster needed to get on some birds after going to northeast Colorado two times, with no success and almost no bird contact.

Spent the afternoon at Colorado Wingsport with Blitz and Dakota. I received a GoPro camera for my 10 year service award at work and took it with me today. My favorite shot of the day:

We will keep hunting NE Colorado, but today did quite a lot for the pup's morale.

It was fine, had the place to myself. Really enjoyed being so close to home. Ran around out there until ~4:30 and was home before 5:00 - can't beat that.

That's great, gotta make sure we take care of the dogs, especially during hunting season because they know whats going on. No birds the dogs don't like that, but you took care of that. And i gotta agree that's a great pic. Also i'm jealous that you have two gray ghost in the field, i'll be getting my new little girl on Sunday, can't wait. A pair of ghost is going to be awesome.

Good luck hunting

Nice pic.

Did you take much video?
I found that if the action is very far at all from you, the FOV needs to be tighter.

Have fun.

Yep - love the pic. Can you provide some details on how you got it? I'm assuming that is the headstrap mount. How did you trigger the camera while handing your gun (or is that a frame captured from a video that was running?).
Either way - looks great and sounds like fun!

I took some video ... too jerky for me. Playing the videos in full screen mode makes me "car sick". I need to figure out a few things when, and will change up modes the next time that I am out. I wore it one day when I was out for a walk with the dogs. The angle that I had the camera really exaggerated the fish eye effect.

Nice pic.

The shot is from a still shot from video. I just turned the video camera on; saved the videos to my computer and then did a copy of the shot out of quick time. I used a head mounted strap, that I wear on top of my cap. You can get the head strap for 9.99 from Walmart on line.

There is also a chest strap, and I hear that the video quality is better because there is not so much camera movement (side to side) but it would be hard to get footage of the action with a chest strap since the gun would likely obscure the view. We run our dogs in AKC hunt tests, and I noticed at the last hunt test that one of the judges was wearing a video camera on a chest strap.

The camera can also be set for photo mode, where it takes pictures at various preselected intervals like 1, 3, 10 ... seconds.

I found that it was nice to review missed shots ... On a long shot, I was shooting at the bird and was not leading.

I took a lot of video, but it was all really jerky, choppy from watching both dogs. With the camera on top of my head, there was a lot of side to side motion. I still need to futz with it some more, but think that I might like the photo mode better than the video. ... Or have my wife come along and have her wear the camera on the chest strap.

Nice pic.

Here is a short one from my Montana trip. It bounces some, but if you don't turn your head too fast its not too bad.

This was a sharptail that got up on the other side of the trees from me.
Just before this point Indy had blown a gasket, running down a hedge row, blowing out several birds.
