Well, I got back out with one cousin today after not hunting at all last weekend. Another cousin was on his way and just was able to avoid an accident where a semi didn't stop at an intersection, my cousin saw him coming and got slowed down, but a vehicle coming the other direction got hit...and lived, my cousin knew the fella and was pretty shook-up. I got my 3 in 4 shots and my cousin got a single and dropped one that must have run, as we both had a good mark on him. I have been out 6 times so far and got my 3 each I outing. I did shoot better today. Anyone else here hunting in Iowa? Been pretty quite on the Iowa sector.IMG_7913.jpg

Glad your cousin avoided the accident and the other guy lived .
Sounds like some real good shooting , how was the dog work?

I had a friend in town from STL and took him on his first pheasant hunt ever on Saturday. We hit some private ground in central Iowa first thing in the AM and he connected on his first bird. It was the only one that held tight, the rest flushed pretty wild. We headed to Chichaqua afterwards and didn’t see a single bird. There were a lot of bird hunters out there.
Today I went to an IHAP property and only put up 4 hens in 2 hours. I packed up the dogs and hit some DNR ground and there wasn’t anyone around. We went to my favorite cattail slough and started putting up birds. I ended up shooting 2 roosters and the dogs did a great job of finding them in the heavy cover. We put in about 11 miles over the weekend chasing roosters and it was worth every step!

Below what I would like. My new GSP just isn't retrieving. He finds them and points them, but I better get a good mark on them. My cousin had a new 1 year old lab, second time pheasant hunting, it is learning what to do.

One of my birds today had earlier in season, taken a pellet in the upper breast, it looked to be healing decently. Tough birds, that part of the breast has to power the wings.
