just wondering whos getting out to chase the blues away. Were headed up to Routt county for the opener, how about you all.

I'll be out chasing them too ;)

10 years ago I thought I was the only grouse hunter in the State, but now it seems to be a growing trend. Two years ago my Sharptail area must of had at least 10 other groups of hunters in it :(

Blue Grouse? I potted one, what seems like a hundred years ago near Encampment, Wyo. off a tree branch, with an H&R gamegetter, which I suppose dates me even further! Do you guys use dogs and get dog work? Everyone of those rascals I've ever encountered flew out of the wrong side of a tree for a shot. Armed with the pistollike .410 and needing camp meat, I took the easy way out! Never did it again, beautiful bird, and deserved a better opportunity, but sure was tasty. Sharpies are next to quail on my list, and ahead of pheasants, which is to say nearer to the almighty.

I will be out as well!!! Blue's and hopefully some sharpies later on!!! Use to Dove hunt all the time, but in recent years have been chasing grouse!! Gonna have to scout the week before and hopefully pin a bunch down!!

You know I have lived that a total of 14yrs in colorado (including the first stint from 95 - 98 when I was stationed at Peterson the first time). I have NEVER found a good area for blue grouse at all!!

Now when I was stationed up in Alaska at Elmendorf AFB I would hunt ptarmigan on snowshoes with my old yellow lab in Hatcher's Pass over by Palmer. The limit was 10, however we wouldn't shoot that many. They were so much fun to shoot because with a dog they would flush.

However, you had to be careful stomping around in your Sherpas because the snow was so deep that there would be hollow caverns from the willows covered in snow and you would fall through. I did that and had a 85lb yellow lab licking my face

Also, I would hunt ruffed grouse and spruce grouse (the alaska cousin of the blue) up there during duck season which starts on 1 September (no doves up that way)

So, after all these years I still have yet to find a decent place WORTH the drive to hunt grouse in Colorado. I have scouted and looked, however like myself, no one is willing to give up there own honey holes....I do understand that.

I would be willing to invite someone along for a pheasant in Kansas to an area of I have hunted since 1996 and with good resutls even in years like this for some good grouse hunting. I am just saying....
