Hope everyone has been getting into some birds in the old dairy land. Let’s hear about it.

Went out shortly last Sunday afternoon and saw 5 hens and one rooster. Had some great tracking work by the dog, but I didn’t put up my end of the bargain with the gun work. It’s fun watching dogs progress through the years. She’s 3 and has naturally gotten better with her scent work every year.

Probably won’t get out a ton this year with twin little ones now so gotta soak in my time out. But, the milo that I planted is looking good, so hopefully I’ll have a pic with a big rooster next to it coming up! IMG_0348.jpeg

Haven’t seen sorghum in SW WI in years. I’m sure it’s here, probably just tucked away in some corner. And of course I get the fact from a distance it can be hard to differentiate and easily mistaken for corn.

Hope to get out this weekend, for a walk. Will see if I can scare one up.

The milo came through! Knocked his wing out and wasn’t having any luck after half an hour of searching. My dog didn’t see him go down and was having trouble tracking.

We were heading back and found him buried very tightly in some shorter grass, luckily. He’s been chowing on milo and oats.

Got out this morning, very windy. Dog did a nice job, pointed 2 hens right out of the gate. After that we had 3 find on roosters, 1st one flushed towards the road so no shooting. Second one flushed and went out low, no shot there either. The last one flushed into the wind, then turned and wet past me like a rocket, shot it and it went with the wind for a long way.

Nice work! Was definitely windy Sunday so that’s great you got into birds.

Dog and I went out Saturday. We found one rooster and got him. Fell into a pond, and the dog made a great water retrieve. Went to another public spot and didn’t flush anything. Corn standing still nearby.

Shot another in the milo after that, but he had legs, and we lost him after a hard search.

The last one is a pic from a video. Bumped into what must’ve been a brood from this year on the road. We counted 11 birds all together. There’s 4 roosters and a hen in the pic.

We’ve killed 5 so far in about 5-6 hunts. Have seen quite a few pheasants, flushing lots of hens. Even had a brood of 5 or 6 roosters get up wild earlier in the week, think ill be back at the golden hour in a week or two. Hoping the weather changes a bit to get rid of the fair weather guys.

Nice! How long is your dog out for after surgery?

Most likely 12 weeks, that is what the "rehab plan" is.
Alot of at home work......we have a binder from our Vet and Physical Therapist that lays everything out week by week. The activities change by the week and increase in intensity as long as everything is OK.
He had his 2 week checkup this past Tuesday for a ultrasonic therapy session, scans, and suture removal.....all looked great.
He starts underwater treadmill therapy twice a week now beginning tomorrow for the next 5 weeks, in addition to what we need to do 3 to 4 times daily at home.
Fingers crossed he continues on the trend he is on......holding him back is more the issue than getting him to do the activities/exercises.
