That was me. First and only turkey I ever got hunting them, although did shoot two off points in the fall, but I don't count them. Got the tom at my place in WI which had never been turkey hunted before. At the time, not many, if any neighbors hunted them either. Now the distant cousin to the west hunts with his two boys since they are old enough.Wild turkey are good, you have to use a baking bag make sure it doesn't dry out but you can make a wild turkey taste like a butterball. In my opinion it takes about 10 years to become a good turkey hunter. Somebody was talking about a 24 lb turkey, most gobblers fall somewhere in between 14 and 20 lb, anything bigger than 20 lb is a big gobbler, the biggest one I ever got was 28 lb.
All this discussion has gotten me to buy a license to hunt this Spring. Will see how it goes!
