2024/2025 Pheasant Hunting Videos

Here's the last video of the 5 videos I just put up from my most recent trip out to SD, I can't compel myself to post a video in this thread every day lol, but if you want to see them, they're on my channel! We ended up shooting 15 birds over the 5 days, and considering how poor my shooting was, it was a bit of a miracle. In this particular video I got out to hunt a ditch, 20ish seconds after I let the dogs out Larry was on point and we shot a rooster.

Also, a question for others who post on YouTube.. do any of you use the YT Studio app or website? Pretty often when using them I'll reply to a comment, but it will not actually post my reply. Then no matter where I reply back to the comment I'll still have a notification for a "comment I haven't replied to".. Wondering if anyone else has this issue?

Yeah, I'm probably on a list though.

I rarely comment on yt, but I had a couple in the past couple weeks where my comments never showed. This was with the android yt app.

Here is a video report from my December trip to SD with my son and his buddy. Most birds harvested were captured on video, as well as some misses, did have camera issues. Birds ranged from holding somewhat tight to flushing randomly. Hope you enjoy.

Dec 16th - Each of us bagged a bird in very windy conditions.

Dec 17th - Only a few bagged birds.

Dec 18th - focus was ditches to give pups a little break, had a very good day. Long Video 14 minutes.

Dec 20th - Probably best day in SD in a long time 9 birds in under 2 hours with only 1 miss. Long Video 21 minutes.

Watched this one. The "he's runnin'!" scene brought a smile to my face. Those times when you know the bird is still in the game, but the dog wasn't able to see them to mark them, can be the most tense and adrenaline filled.

Looks like you found some very nice ditches!

It sure is nice for you to have a good tracker in your tool belt with those extremely high will-to-live roosters and thick cover. Well done, Mr. Ace. And well done Ace dad, with 3 late season, wily roosters in the bag.

Thanks! I get incredible enjoyment from his ability to pull off some of those recoveries. Then on the very next bird, dead as dead gets, he stands pretty much right ON the thing & doesn't know it's there.

I enjoy a number of things about hunting, but watching a dog, who is much closer to nature than we can ever hope to be, do their thing, and compete with these spectacular birds, is my favorite aspect.

This is pure conjecture, and I could be wrong, but I wonder if he was just making sure he knew what he was up against before committing and entering the cattails. Listening to hear if it was moving, and how far in, while he was sitting still, not making noise. I find Honey doing a lot of listening to help her determine if a scent might be from a bird that is in the area or not, while tracking/stalking before the flush, near heavier cover. I try to stop my movement when I see her doing that, so she can focus on any noises the bird might be making. Doesn't apply to you walking up to him here, but just a comment on how interesting it is that they employ hearing a lot too.

Also, those dead as dead gets birds aren't tooting out a lot of scent, so probably takes a moment for the lesser scent of their body to waft out. Certainly didn't need an extra 1/4 oz on that shot. You smoked him with the entire oz. That cacklin' boy knew he was in trouble. Nice shot.
