2018 Pheasant Allocation !

Fldbred, I am buying a non resident NJ license this year. Should I buy a pheasant stamp or would my time be better spent hunting PA? How many quail do you see? Your message box is full.

NJ does a good job with it's Pheasant Program. As you know I hunt both states! If asked to choose between the two it's an easy answer, Pa. wins hands down! The SGL's are much larger than most of the WMA's and if you choose right offer more of the ole time pheasant hunting atmosphere. I would never hunt one of the NJ release areas on a Saturday or release day. Having said that NJ stocks multiple times a week and LONG into the season, so it's rare that you won't have some action even on the non- stocking days!

It's been a while since I hunted the released quail, since it's been decades now that I prefer the flushing breeds and an obsession with the Ringneck! I have attended Field Trials at those two locations and there are ALWAYS surplus birds around. Those two locations have the feel of the Plantation quail hunts. I talked to my SIL last night who works for NJ F +W are asked him about the quail hunting. He said they did a survey at the two locations and that the hunters were very satisfied. We both know how unusual that is. lol

If you are buying a NJ license "anyway" you could have some memorable hunts!

Thanks Dan, I think I'll get a stamp for $40.00. That's just the cost of two game preserve pheasants. I may try the quail unless they are located too far away.

It should be a good season and this will be the first year Connor can join me and the dogs. I did enter him in the drawing for the WPRA youth hunt scheduled for this fall. It will also be a bit sad this fall since Blitz just got diagnosed with bone cancer. I'm not sure how long he has but he is done hunting. If he can make it a few months I may put a final bird out for him. I'll just have to wait and see how he does.

Dang man...talk about going from high to low! Having Connor with you is going to be very special. The loss of Blitz is going to be tough to put it mildly. We've come to know him here, almost as if we had hunted with him, damm it goes way to fast. A bitter sweet season for sure. My thoughts are with you guys!
