2014 Pheasant Season!

It's time to start putting some plans together for the upcoming season! What are some of your plans for the season? Trips? New spots?

With each coming year the number of places we can hunt continue to increase! We will be a Pheasant Camp for the Opener and spend the majority of the time we have to hunt this year there as well!

Just seeing this Post has gotten me excited, it means others are thinking like my hunting buddies and I. We were just talking about the upcoming pheasant season, usually this time of year it's about archery deer season. We have a new interest in the Pa. upland season, we've got some real good looking prospects. My buddy got a new pup that's coming along fine and I haven't seen him this excited in years.
No final plans yet, but we are working on that now, and that's a lot of fun in itself!

The early season will consist of two youth hunts and one veterans hunt on three different Saturdays. I'll hunt local when I can and I hope to try and chase more grouse this year. I plan to hunt some different areas and see how things go. I'm not sure how Nittany will do this year since he'll be turning 10 this fall. Sometimes I think he's slowing down but he's always ready to go the next morning for a run. I guess that's why I started looking for a potential new pup for the spring.

Good luck at pheasant camp!

The dogs are getting ready and found some quail on Friday morning.

There is no doubt the season is fast approaching. The days are getting shorter, it's now still dark when I get to work. A lot of people are sad that summer is coming to an end, but not us. I am sure everyone here feels the same way, fall is what we wait for every year. Let's not rush it to get here because then it goes all to quickly.

The 2013 season was"FANTASTIC" ! I think we had action almost every time out, often getting our limit way to early in hunt. But it was more than just getting the birds, it was the quality of the hunts and sharing it with you guys here and family.

I loved hearing about how you guys did. Bauerline and his boys knocked it out of the park, Roosterslammer bought his dream pheasant property, 25ot6 and his lab Drake, did some special things, just to mention a few. It seemed that everyone had some good moments afield. I really enjoyed listening to the reports of some of the new or returning upland hunters to Pa.

What will 2014 bring for me....well the jury is still out! As many of you may know, Dugan our Springer had a season for the record books. No rooster was safe after he locked on. He turned 10 but was showing no signs of slowing down. Then in May he had a freak accident. He is recovering, but he is 10.
So this season may be very special for different reasons. Every moment of these seasons is so precious!

I like the "die hard" attitudes.
I enjoy the sharing of adventures.
Hope you guys have LOTS!

2013 was my best year to date, because it was my first for "REAL" Pheasant hunting, even thou I didn't get any birds maybe because I started in the season way late or the dog and weren't ready. What ever the case It was the best year so far and it can only get better. hope to see some of ya out there. good luck to you all.

That's a great attitude Dave! I am sure you are going to have some good action in 2014. Start to put a plan together now, not just the spots you are going to hunt, but how you will approach the hunt itself. This is critical for the opener especially. We like to get to an area , that will take the crowds a while to get there, even if it means getting there in the dark and waiting for legal shooting time. When we see other hunters start to approach we leave ,a lot of times we have had some action and are satisfied knowing we have the rest of the season to hunt. We have enough spots to hunt that crowed conditions are not a problem after the opener, some mornings we never see another hunter.

So have you decided what area of the state you are going to hunt?

Still working on that one. Taking a bird home isn't my goal, it's an added bonus. My goal is to be grateful of where I can hunt ( not all states I lived in have the public SGL ) and being out doors with my dog and him doing what he's breed to do.

 PM sent!

Dave- It may sound like common sense but hunt the areas that most hunters avoid. If there are a lot of hunters when you are out, try the woods. The birds are going to move and don't be afraid to hunt the same area twice in the same day.

Thanks for the advice. any bit helps. I'm not sure how hard the areas ( SGL ) around me were hunted last year because I started so late in the season. I think for the 5-6 times I went out I saw 2 other guys hunting, I guess that could be good or bad. But this year I'll find out what its like in the Beginning of the season.

As of right now it looks like we will hunt grouse the morning of the opener, then switch to pheasants later in the day when the crowds thin out. This will be in Bradford County.

Just got the new PA Game News, nice pheasant story in it, things are starting to get interesting real fast!:)

We just got a case of clay birds and a few boxes of shells, going to do some shootin this weekend. Come on October!

I had the dogs out running the other day and they are rounding in to shape.

Turned out to be a cat.

Some of the local fields are holding up well.

Today I was fishing at a pond close to the above fields and I could hear the birds talking. It was a mix of holdover birds from last year and some of the new birds. You can hear the roosters over my boys talking.

The time is almost here.
