The new pheasant season is soon here for us PA hunters. What plans does anybody have for the year? Anybody going out of state?

The season will start for the dogs this Saturday. I helped put a youth hunt together for a local sportsman's club for 6 young hunters. This is the first time we are doing an organized youth hunt at the club. I have and will be doing another one with our PF chapter next month as well. Our PF chapter will also be having another veteran's hunt in November. I'll take the dogs out for a preserve hunt in Monday since I have off work.

I will be trying to get out as much as possible during the early season. I've been looking over the calendar and penciled in some days off from work. This is the first year for a late season close to home so I may try to find some birds in the late season. If nothing else the dogs will get to run.

Don't forget about the flushing survey's this winter. That's my chance to run the dogs on wild PA pheasants .

I can't believe it's just around the corner! We've been going over our plans for the last month...and to be honest with you, we keep changing them!

We have at least three weeks off, not counting that nasty " BIRD FLU" that seems to hit us every year at the same time! We use one week for the deer season and the rest for ole Mr Ringneck.

One of the reasons are plans keep changinging is because of all the oppurtunities that Pa. now offers. That and the crazy weather that is going on in the Mid-West.

One thing for sure is that our "NEW" Pheasant Camp will see plenty of action this year.

We are also involved with volunteer work in NJ,there just isn't enough week-ends this time of year.

It looks like it's going to be another GREAT year. I can feel it, the dog feels it, and the people at work know better than to bother me now! lol.

I want it to get here...but I also want to savor every minute of it!

Yes we have some new areas this year that look very promissing. That's another reason for our changing plans. We are trying to get the most out of all the driving we'll be doing.

The "new' Pheasant Camp is actually our deer/grouse camp. We now call it that because of the added opportunities that exist. I know it's confusing! LOL :D , so from now on we will refer to it as the Pheasant Camp. We'll have to come up with a different name for the place we rent!

Will you be going to On-Point this year?

I'm pretty sure I'll get out to Onpoint again. I just don't know when I'll go. I'll be in Florida in December, so I'll have to figure out a different time to go. I really want to get out west sometime but it's just not in the cards due to the distance and work. I think I may try to do some type of quail hunt in the south sometime since the drive wouldn't be as long.

Good luck at your new camp this year. I hope to bag a grouse this year in the northern part of PA.

bauerline, I will be going the week of Oct. 28-Nov.2 on some of the state game lands in York Co. If you are going anytime that week maybe we could get together for a day or two of hunting?

I'll have to stay close to home on those days. I've got parent/teacher conferences to attend and my wife is going out of town for a couple of days for work. I plan to stay in Adams county that week. Thanks for the offer.

ahhh finally its October! the move didnt work out so it looks like ill be staying in the area for awhile...i'm currently trying to get into Bow hunting, so we shall see how that works with everything else. But i'm sure excited about pheasants in PA! we have a MN/SD trip planned for the middle of Nov and the rest of the time will be spent between VA and PA.

hope to see some of yall out in the fields again this year!

Good to hear from you, Snipet. Good luck on your trip to MN and SD. Let us know how things go. Maybe we can try to meet up sometime this fall in mid to late November. Football for the boys and PF events have the first 4 Saturdays full.

will do, not sure how things are going to go due to it being a family/hunting visit but im hopeful, ha!

sounds great! let me know if you need any help with PF stuff.

thanks!

The boys still have flag football so I won't get out for grouse. The 1st two weekends of pheasant season will also have flag football games but I should be able to get out close to home. Good luck!

Can't wait to get to camp! I think the grouse hunting is going to be tuff with all the leaves still on the trees, but it's just a warm up for the pheasant opener. I am sure we will have enough flushes, but getting a decent shot is another story. this same area is MUCH better later on in the season.

Only a couple more days of work then it's vacation time for the pheasant season. I wait all year for this and I think it's going to be another good season. I want Sat. to get here quick but I also don't want to rush the season.

Yes, it is getting closer. I will only have 30-45 minutes to hunt early on Saturday before football for the boys. I hope to get my birds early and then I'll take a friend out and his son who will be hunting for the first time. I want to focus on the dogs and get the kid into birds. Good luck this weekend! I hope things go well Saturday night, too. We Are!
