I have the opportunity to buy a 1955 Winchester Model 12 with a multy choke in it, case and locks. The gun is average condition and seems to work fine. Cost us $150CDN. Is it worth it or am I better off putting the money towards something new. I will be upland bird hunting for the first time with a dog. I appreciate the advice.

If you don't mind the multi choke I would say fine. It would certainly be as good as a 870 Express Remington I would think.

If you can shoot it and pattern it on some paper I would feel better. I have had no experience with the polychoke type things.

Anyone have any idea how well they stay on ?

Buy It

It should be fine. It's not a gun to use steel shot in, just lead or one of the soft nontox rounds. The adjustable chokes most often work as marked. I would check the point of impact to make sure it is shooting where it looks. The choke won't come off.

Model 12's are one of the great guns. I use one when I hunt South Dakota.
