10-31-2012 Three Man Hunt

Took two buddies out yesterday . . . my first trip to Guthrie county this year.

Bird numbers were not as good as what I experienced south of DSM. Wow, I never thought I'd type that. Crazy.

In a morning's hunt, we probably saw 35 hens and 12 roosters. We shot a perfect 9 for 9, which was a plus. My buddy with the 18 month old GSP got some good dog work in, which was a bigger plus.

Every field we walked was 50% (or better) mowed . . . which made for some fast hunts.

Water?

Hello Nate,

You must have a great woman for her to allow you and your buddies to tramp around in her flower bed! Did you have water near or on the properties you hunted? I know it is early, but with the on-going drought I am already finding that a water source is key if you wish to bump birds in any numbers.
