10-29-2014 Hunt

What a beautiful day! Perfect conditions . . . crisp and cool while walking into the field, clear skies, and little wind.

Another two man limit via a one field hunt. We counted 20+ roosters and 12+ hens. Gunner went on point less than five seconds into the field, and we knocked down five in less than a forty yard walk. It was amazing.

We walked the remaining three edges of the big block, bagging our last rooster shortly after the first five. We unloaded our guns and followed Gunner up the last edge, towards the truck, where he pointed another four roosters.

That was fun. Numbers are UP!

Hey, that sounds like a real nice hunt and love the picture!

Hello Nate,

Gunner looks proud and confident like any great bird dog should!:) Congrats on a great hunt.

I am hoping to return to the fields on Friday. Sophie finally got her nose back after the skunk incident. I am aware it is supposed to be very windy but going to give it a try anyway.

Have been waiting for corn harvest to proceed in several of the areas I visit each year. Birds have been heading to corn at first light and even staying in the corn if pressured.

Great picture Nate, with that old tractor and all, really cool.

I assume that is a buddy dog you have there? You did not get a training partner for Gunner did you?

Hey guys!

Didn't check in yesterday as I was afield all day ... took two friends out.

Sophie's skunking! Ugh! I've been there with all of my dogs. No fun at all! I use the same formula the others shared, which works pretty well. Hope Sophie is near 100% as I type.

The setter ... yes, my buddy's dog. He's just a couple months older than Gunner. I've known him since he was a pup, and this is his best year by far.
