    Tripping or Falling

This one is a Doozie. 2 years walking in reed canary grass along a creek on a WPA in south central SD. Step into a hole if which my entire size 9 boot goes in and I fall backwards and hear a SNAP. Incredible pain. Laying in the grass I realize my foot/calf muscle no longer function. I...

    These video guys

It was a wonderful career, somedays I had to pinch myself getting paid to trap/band wood ducks, mallards, geese, doves. Even spent 3 weeks on the Hudson Bay performing Canada goose surveys. Got alittle more difficult when you had more years working in the field than the age of new supervisors...

Don't forget that many state game and fisheries are funded by license revenues and PR reimbursements. Many state game and fish agencies do not receive general tax dollars funds These dedicated funds pay the salaries of wildlife/fish biologists and their management operations (banding, aerial...

    Motel recommendation powers lake-crosby-tioga area?

Contemplating a late October upland hunting venture. Desire a motel that would allow me to bring my setters inside. I will be hunting alone much to my wifes displeasure. Therefore, would enjoy the company of my four legged companions. Any recommendations in this corner of the state. R

    1st Time Heading to grasslands

Shouldn't be to crowded second week, if hunting mid week. Pay Particular attention to prairie dog towns. Avoid them to minimize incidents with prairie rattlesnakes with you and your dogs. The cattle guards leading into paddocks may also hold rattlesnakes. You may encounter covies of...

    Snow depths/minimum maintenance roads

Doesn't sound like a trip that I should undertake alone. The thought of getting stuck on a minimum maintenance road in January may be foolish. I have made 3 trips to SD since November and enjoyed myself and the 3 dogs immensely. Perhaps wisdom as a 64 year old should intervene and keep me home?

Upland strap vest you can load birds in

I'm in the market for a final rise vest, which model do you recommend? I'm thinking the Summit. I have a browning bird and lite, but carrying 2 - 32oz water bottles and a couple of pheasants feels heavy towards my back. And the water bottle holders seem alittle far back to reach. Or perhaps...

    Snow depths

Any chance or predictions that there will be a substantial melting of snow before the end of January? Sure would like to make another run there if minimum maintenance roads become drivable. Not a fan of walking on crunchy snow and seeing my dogs have the edges of their pads cut..
