I like hunting with my 2 Drahts. My current 2 dogs, 11 1/2 and 4 years old, work as an awesome team. Both are natural backers and I really enjoy watching them working as a team on a running bird. The second dog helps when one decides to take on a raccoon too.

Some training I do with a pup is have a bird in a launcher and launch the bird the second you know the dog has scented the bird and dont allow the dog to chase. I typically use 3-6 birds with this drill and then the pup will lock up on first scent. I run Drahthaars so your experience may vary...

I like Cuga vests for my Drahts and wish they made one that would fit a Teckel (hunting wirehair dachshund). I have a medium-narrow and it fits my female Drahts (58 lbs) perfectly. I think their regular size is more sized for big Labs where as the narrow fits the German versatile best

I'm no help. I have Drahthaars and chasing rabbits is just a fact of owning one. I kind of like watching them chase a big jackrabbit, Usually the jack runs just fast enough to stay in front of the dog playing them for quite a distance.
