    Got a visitor

I have not done the quail in many years and they are all gone. I did see several roosters in the spring and some hens. I’ve had reports of roosters fighting over the hens earlier in the spring.

    Got a visitor

I picked up 250 day olds about a month ago and left them come out of the brooder house for the first time. They got a visit from one of the several holdovers that are in the area.

    Found birds

Found some birds after work with Scout and Champ. Also found a den of some type. We flushed 11 birds. The last release was prior to Christmas.

I don’t think they are too interested in Penn State. Connor wants to wrestle in college and he’s not a D1 wrestler. And psu costs so much for a state school. A lot of private schools end up costing less after grants. aides and scholarships are given out. It’s crazy! But who knows what will...

Yep. Carson is 13 and Connor is 15. Football is ending and basketball along with wrestling is starting up. Next year both will be in high school. Enjoy the season!

I got Carson out after school and we put up 1 bird. Still too warm for my liking but it all worked out. I won’t get to post often but I plan to get out as much as I can.

Good for you. I was done in 30 minutes today. 2 points, 2 shots and 2 retrieves. Saw more hunters today than I usually do. I had plenty of time to clean up and go pick up my youngest from football practice. Good luck to everyone for the rest of the season. I’ll be out with my other boy...

    Stocking Dates Changed?

Took the dogs and gun for a walk today. Saw 1 rooster on the drive to the fields and 2 on the way home. Saw 0 while hunting. It was a nice morning.

Scout is doing well. He needs to learn to pace himself at the start but that will come with age. He doesn’t run quite as big as he used to but he still covers a lot of ground. He is a better hunter this year and I think next year he will put it all together and start to enter his prime years.

    Stocking Dates Changed?

The coming snow storm may be to blame for the change.

    2020 early season

The state has tried to bring wild birds back using wild birds from the Midwest. It has had mixed results. The area with good habitat have had some good success but it is limited. The areas that do have wild birds have limited hunting (youth only) and only for roosters.

    2020 early season

The hens are not wild and will not reproduce. The state has been releasing over 200,000 birds each year for many years and the pen raised birds just won’t reproduce to establish any type of wild population. So hens are legal in most of the state now.

    2020 early season

Moved two roosters today with one offering a shot. He’s still out there if anybody is interested. It was pretty quiet at the gamelands with only a few others out. Only heard one round of shots.

    2020 early season

Scout is 3 and Champ will soon be 6. The quail did do well with the JH and it was nice having them. I think you would enjoy working with them. Good job on the hunt. Today we moved 2 roosters and took one. Just a few more days left. I’m not sure how much I’ll get out in the late season. I...

    2020 early season

I don’t have any quail. The pens started to fall apart and I had my kids and some of their friends tear them apart this summer. I would like to have them again but I’m not sure when that will happen. Probably in a few years when one or two of the boys are out of high school. This is the time...

    2020 early season

Hit gamelands 249 in Adams county Monday morning. Scout and Champ moved 3 hens and 2 roosters in an hour and 15 minutes. The roosters didn’t offer much of a shot but 2 hens cooperated. This is the first year we can shoot hens in this area. The dogs do not like to pose for pictures when...
